German Shepherd Dog - Dharma - Large - Young - Female - Dog
When Darma was only eight months old, she left the family with whom she'd been living for almost all of her puppy life and joined our Rescue family. She had been her family's first German Shepherd and unfortunately Darma was given little opportunity for socialization outside her home. We are happy to tell you that since she moved into her foster home, this sweet girl is making up for lost time! And in the process, someone is falling in love with her. Her foster mom just wrote, "I'm in love!" But love is a two way street and Darma is in love as well. There are three things we know she loves: chasing the ball, dropping the ball in your lap (or in an open drawer or a laundry basket or a potted plant - you get the picture!), and swimming with the ball in her mouth. We are told she is the best four legged swimmer in her foster home. That's quite an accomplishment because there are four resident canines. There are also three things that Darma is learning to love. When cars pass by the house, Darma acts as if she wants to "get" the car. That's not a good idea and she's making good progress in learning not to love moving vehicles. We already know that Darma loves balls so it shouldn't come as a surprise that she doesn't love coming back into the house when play time is over. And then there is barking when she sees an unfamiliar dog in public. With every trip out and about, the barking gets less and less. She's settling down and is coming to understand that she doesn't have to love to bark at everything she sees or hears. Let's just investigate the situation and then decide whether it is worthy of a reaction! What else do we know about Darma? With a proper introduction, she gets along great with dogs and people. She's fine with the resident canines in her foster home and had a great time at a doggie pool party with about seven dogs. Darma loves toys. In fact, she loves them so much that she can be a bit too possessive of them. Sharing is good and she's learning to share with the doggie friends. Darma would probably be okay as an only dog but we think it would be best if she had an older, confident dog who could be her mentor. We already told you that her foster mom was in love with her. She went on to say, "She's your typical SMART female GSD puppy. Loves to use her brain. She's the smartest foster dog we've ever had and we've fostered over 20 dogs". What a compliment! We are certain you can't wait to fall in love with Darma just as she is certain to fall in love with you. Don't forget the balls! Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way!
